Abstract

National and global requirements and realities must be considered in international teacher training cooperations for German as a Foreign Language (GFL). In-service training courses contribute to the professionalization of GFL teachers, but are often not empirically sound. This article presents the training concept of the Sub-Saharan Africa Network DaF Digital (SANDD) and reports on experiences from two training cycles on digitality and multilingualism. The challenges of hybrid trainings in Aub-Saharan Africa (SSA) are discussed, including the lack of empirical studies and the importance of context-specific conditions. Finally, the necessity of consistent demand-oriented cooperation for the professionalization of GFL teachers in Sub-Saharan Africa is pointed out.
