This paper explores the design and evaluation of a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) for promoting GFL teachers’ professional skills in dealing critically with fake news. The research project follows a design-based research method in which the evaluation is carried out by collecting quantitative (feedback questionnaires) and qualitative data (thinking-aloud protocols, semi-structured interviews, observations, and focus groups). The paper presents the MOOC’s development in a practice-oriented format and abstracts key design principles for creating digital professional development concepts for GFL teachers on a theoretical level.
