As a special administrative region of the People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong has an education system that differs fundamentally from that of the People’s Republic of China. There are only two universities in Hong Kong that offer a Germany-related degree program. Primary and secondary schools generally offer German only as an extra-curricular activity. There is also a shortage of trained teachers of German. The head of the language department at the Goethe-Institut and the DAAD lecturer have designed and implemented a pilot teacher training project to equip Hongkongers who possess German language skills with didactic and methodological skills. The aim is to promote the teaching of German in schools and strengthen the position of German in Hong Kong. DLL and Dhoch3 modules were used for this purpose. In this article, the Hong Kong school and education system and the situation of the German language are explained, and the pilot project is presented.
