About the Journal

KONTEXTE is a forum for international exchange on current trends in (continuing) education and professional development in German as a foreign language (GFL). The articles showcase the different conditions under which GFL teachers worldwide are prepared for teaching and how they grow into their professional responsibilities. The journal examines the broad range of possibilities for shaping, experiencing, and researching professionalization processes.

KONTEXTE focuses not only on university training courses and training programs, but also on research-based approaches to individual and collegial development in everyday professional life. Contributions to the journal can relate to the entire scope of professional domains for GFL teachers.

KONTEXTE publishes empirical studies, theoretical papers and conceptual work as well as experience-based articles that provide insights into the professional development of (prospective) teachers. The articles can be supplemented by extensive appendices.

KONTEXTE is an Open Access journal published via the publication platforms of the Thuringian University and State Library Jena.

We only publish previously unpublished work. Submissions undergo different quality assurance procedures depending on the section of the journal. Since 2024, all publications are peer-reviewed. Empirical articles are double blind peer reviewed by external experts. Practice reports and working papers are peer-reviewed by the editorial team and the (guest) editors.
